Selena Gomez reveals lupus diagnosis and chemotherapy

Selena Gomez opens up about her lupus diagnosis and reveals she went through chemotherapy.

In an interview with Billboard Magazine she revealed, "I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke."

While the 23-year-old took a break from the spotlight to undergo treatment, negative rumors including those about addictions were sparked.

"I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again," Gomez admitted.

Gomez's ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, has gone through a recent career transformation himself, but Gomez made it clear that his transformation played no role in inspiring her own.

"No. This is my time. I’ve deserved this. I earned it. This is all me," she said.

However, the singer does credit pal Taylor Swift for “empowering her” and helping her “trust new people.”

"The way she cares about women is so adamant. It’s pulling me out of my shell," she said.

Earlier this week, Gomez announced plans for her 2016 world tour. Her new album Revival will be available this Friday.
