This past summer, Ant-Man pleasantly surprised audiences and critics and the studios are eyeing the director, Peyton Reed, to come back for the sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios and Reed are negotiating his return in order to direct the 2018 film Ant-Man and the Wasp. Other than Ant-Man, Reed is best known for directing The Breakup in 2006.
Ant-Man was not originally planned for phase three of Marvel’s universe but with the surprising success, a sequel had to happen. Not only did the film make $178 million domestically, but it was also one of the top ten movies of the year so far.
The film also made a lot of money overseas and Cinema Blend reported that it made $43 million in a recent release in China. That is the second highest debut in Disney’s and Marvel’s history in that area.
With the success of the film, it is no surprise that the studios would want to bring back Reed. Paul Rudd is also onboard and will also appear in Captain America: Civil War. Ant-Man will make an appearance in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016 and two years later on July 6 for the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
