The New York Times noted that the 57-year-old CEO of the Union Square Hospitality Group announced the new plan on Wednesday calling it a change in how to reward restaurant employees.

Meyer has been wanting to implement this no-tipping policy for some time. In a newsletter written several years ago he said that he would like adopt a European-style of tipping and would be pleased if other restaurants would follow that lead.

“Because our country has a longstanding tradition where a server’s income is determined by guests’ tips rather than a weekly salary set by the restaurant, we are at a disadvantage when it comes to recognizing and promoting outstanding service,” the newsletter read.

Nowadays, Meyer is not alone when it comes to the no-tipping rule as many restaurants around the county have applied it.

Guests at Meyer’s eateries can expect to see the “Hospitality Included” policy starting next month.
