J.J. Abrams says everything is OK with new 'Star Wars' film

Star Wars is the biggest film franchise in history. When Disney bought the rights from LucasFilm in October of 2012 fans were scared that their favorite movie might be in jeopardy. With excitement for the new trilogy comes a lot of fear but J.J. Abrams reassured his fans that the film is in the right hands.

According to Movie Web, Abrams has the final cut to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That means that he has full creative control over the film and changes he wants to make he can and will. He said that he is not trying to “Disney-fy” the franchise.

While that may be reassuring to some it still leaves question as to where Abrams stands for the future. Abrams is only directing the first film with Rian Johnson set to direct Episode 8 and Colin Trevorrow directing Episode 9,

The challenge for the other two directors will be to keep the story going while putting their own stylistic twists on the beloved franchise.

When it comes to Disney, Abrams told Screen Crush, “They let us make the movie we wanted to make." He went on to speak very highly of the Disney executives.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for a Dec. 18, 2015 release.
