Emily Blunt became a U.S. citizen for 'tax reasons,' still supports Queen Elizabeth

Emily Blunt sparked some controversy after becoming a U.S. citizen and joking about regretting it because of the Republican debate, and she’s now revealing the real reason she became a legal citizen.

Part of Blunt becoming a U.S. citizen was renouncing Queen Elizabeth, but the Sicario star revealed she didn’t really want to.

"It's mainly for tax reasons," she told the Sunday Times. "I didn't want to renounce my Queen."

She also joked about the process she underwent, explaining, "You have to learn all about the Constitution. You can't be a habitual drunk, you can't be on a guerrilla squad and you can't be a prostitute, which is a shame."

As we previously reported, Blunt has apologized for her remarks about thinking that getting American citizenship was a bad idea after watching the GOP debate, which really angered the Fox & Friends co-hosts.

She “just Dixie Chick’d herself,” said Steve Doocy. “She just alienated half the country that now will think twice about going to one of her movies.”
