The Liquorsmiths 'This Book Belongs To' Album Review

Hailing from San Diego, The Liquorsmiths are a folk rock, indie folk, America band. With accolades stretching from performing at festivals that include Adam’s Unplugged (Headliners), Carlsbad Music Festival, Flagstaff Folk Festival, San Francisco Americana Mini Festival, Valley Center Music Festival and San Diego Earth Fair, The Liquorsmiths sound like a mix between Wilco, Delta Spirit, The Avett Brothers, Simon and Garfunkel and Neil Young. With their newest album, This Book Belongs To under their belt, there is no stopping this folksy rock band from showing the world what they are made of.

The band harnesses in their sound a good beat that rocks the true rockabilly not only live but through their record they are able to generate a great sound. With a searing raw potential the album gets catchier as the rundown of the songs are played in full. This Book Belongs To is able to grasp the live spirit of the band’s performances and through their outreaches to provide listeners at home a taste of their live sound, this open-ended minding is carefully rendered through their crafted sound on the record.

The songwriting skills on this album are truly a work of art. Their album not only harnesses a great sound, but also a dynamic and catchy gravitating backbeat. The Liquorsmiths are able to take the essence of each song and hone it into something great. Their brighter phrases of the album start at “Devil I Do” and the turnabout gives a thunderous welcome to listeners.

In full, the folksy and soulful ballads dives down deep and delves into the ephemeralness of each track. For each track, front man Drew Thams moans and groans until the redemptive number is magically enhanced. The rock group performs as a trio with Ryan Fischer (keyboards, drums, percussion) and Clayton Payne (drums, percussion). The record which is produced by Inhension Records, will be seeing a lot of potential radio play. It dropped Aug. 21st.
