The Flash is one of CW’s newest hit shows that had a successful first season and now the DVD is on its way, giving fans another glimpse into the magic behind Barry Allen and how the showrunners brought the beloved comic book character to life.
Starring Grant Gustin as the titular character, the first season introduced us to this superhero as he discovered his power for speed and helping to save Central City from the many metahumans he came across. He also contended with the mysterious Reverse Flash and keeping his new identity a secret from his childhood best friend and crush, Iris West.
What I love most about The Flash is the story and chemistry between the characters, including Barry Allen and his surrogate father, Joe West. The show does a great job of tying things together and introducing different plots in subtle ways throughout the season.
The first season had amazing displays of action and special effects that were brought together to create a spectacular first season. For the DVD, these elements were discussed in a special feature in which the effects team discussed how they brought The Flash’s speed to life.
The DVD includes five discs and a special feature is on each disc. The first disc contains a pilot commentary with Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns. In addition, other special features include a discussion on the return of The Trickster, played by Mark Hamill, and we also got to see the screen test between Grant Gustin and Arrow’s Emily Beth Rickards.
As we draw closer to season two of this fantastic show, this DVD will be a great way to rediscover the magic of The Flash. You’ll get to see how the show was put together, deleted scenes, and a gag reel features some hilarious behind the scenes moments with the cast, including some four letter words that come out in multiple ways.
Fans of The Flash will love this DVD and the special features that come with it.
Own it on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD September 22, 2015.
