Sam Smith will sing theme for next James Bond film 'Spectre'

Rumors have circulated about Sam Smith singing the theme to the next James Bond movie, Spectre. He has partially fueled them himself, but as of this morning, he confirmed them to be true.

The Grammy-winning artist will be singing a track called “Writing’s on the Wall,” according to a report from Reuters. He co-wrote it with Jimmy Napes, who previously collaborated with the singer on In the Lonely Hour. While the movie itself arrives on Nov. 6, “Writing’s on the Wall” will be released on Sept. 25.

"This is one of the highlights of my career," Smith explained in a press statement. "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations."

Smith will be the first male artist to sing a Bond theme since 1965.

Smith himself appeared indecisive about whether he’d do the movie or not. He previously said he wasn’t involved, but then hinted at it through social media. The last vague update was an Instagram shot of a hand wearing a ring displaying the Spectre logo. As well, Ellie Goulding has been attached to the project at points.

Spectre sees Daniel Craig resume his role as Bond, while Sam Mendes returns again to direct. Joining Craig this time around are Monica Bellucci and Christoph Waltz.
