Rick Perry suspends 2016 GOP presidential campaign

Former Governor of Texas Rick Perry has suspended his bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination as of Friday afternoon.

CNN reported that according to remarks that had been prepared for delivery at the Eagle Forum in St. Louis that were released by his campaign team, Perry will announce that deep financial problems led to him being short on staff in several of the key states.

Perry’s current campaign is his second bid to the White House, but never gained traction and has run into financial problems.

“That is why today I am suspending my campaign for the presidency of the United States,” Perry will say.
The former Texas governor shut down his South Carolina headquarters in Columbia, his state chairman Katon Dawson confirmed on Tuesday. This news comes nearly a month after the Perry campaign announced that it would no longer be paying its staff across the country.

The next Republican debate is scheduled to take place on Sept. 16 at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA.
