'Once Upon a Time' Season 4 in review

The premiere of Once Upon a Time’s season 5 airs tonight, so it’s a good time to look back and reflect on season 4.

Season 4 ended with one of the most intense cliff hangers this show has had. Emma has taken on the darkness of the Dark One to save Regina and Storybrooke. Will Emma fight the darkness, or will she give in to it? How that will play out is what we will see in season 5.

Although, there’s more to season 5 than just Dark Swan. We will get to see the characters from Camelot as Merlin is supposedly the only one who will be able to take the darkness tethered to Emma and banish it once and for all. Also in the works is an encounter with Merida from Brave and some old friends along the way, including Mulan and Ruby. TV Line quoted co-creator Adam Horowitz as saying,

“We’re not planning to drop them back in the show with no explanation and just say, ‘Oh, they were over in the corner. We do want to give a taste of where Mulan has been and what she’s been up to and what she’s been going through. The same with Red.”

“The Dark Swan,” the first installment of season 5 will air at 8/7c on ABC. Until then, here’s a recap of season 4.
