Matt Damon clarifies comments about gay actors on ‘Ellen’ (video)

Matt Damon is setting the record straight about comments he made about gay actors.

Damon visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show and addressed headlines that are suggesting he thinks gay actors should “go back in the closet,” after an interview with The Guardian about actor’s personal lives and rumors Damon and Ben Affleck were gay went viral.

Ellen DeGeneres brought up the comments and asked Damon to talk about it. “Something you said got twisted around and I wanted you to address it,” she said.

The actor admitted he just heard about his current controversy.

“I was just trying to say that actors are more effective when they’re a mystery,” Damon said. “And somebody picked it up and said I said gay actors should get back in the closet. It’s stupid, but it’s painful when things get said that you don’t believe, and then it gets represented as that’s what you believe.”

“You’re not that guy,” DeGeneres said to Damon.

Then the talk show host joked, “And it shocks me that you and Ben are not gay.”

DeGeneres continued to show her support for Damon on Twitter. “I know Matt Damon is a good guy. I was happy to help set the record straight (or gay. Up to you),” she said on Twitter with a link to the interview clip.
