Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis is allegedly in violation of a federal judge’s order not to interfere with marriage license forms an attorney for a county official alleged Friday.
According to a NBC News report, the lawyer of one of Davis’ deputies, Brian Mason, claims she made substantial changes to marriage licenses that include deleting her name, all mention of Rowan County and the references to deputy clerks.
Davis was arrested earlier this month for contempt of court after defying court orders to issue marriage licenses. She was held for five days before being released.
Davis refused to issue marriage licenses in response to the decision of the supreme court in Obergefell v. Hodges that declared same-sex couples have the right to marry under the Fourteenth Amendment. Upon her release, the judge warned her not to interfere with her deputies issuing of marriage licenses.
Her alleged violation comes on the heels of a failed attempt to delay issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Thursday according to a CBS News report.
Davis, who said issuing licenses to same-sex couples would violate her religious beliefs, has been the center of much debate since her arrest. The ongoing saga has drawn strong reactions from supporters and critics of same-sex marriage and become a focal point of political conversation.
