Forbes ranks Dallas Cowboys most valuable franchise in NFL, sports

The Dallas Cowboys have been ranked as the most valuable franchise in the NFL by Forbes magazine.

According to Forbes, the Cowboys are worth $4 billion and are the NFL’s most valuable team for the ninth consecutive year. The Cowboys had $620 million in revenue last season, which is an NFL record. Their value is up $800 million, 25 percent, from last year. They are the most valuable sports franchise in the world for the first time since 2007. Behind the Cowboys in the NFL are the New England Patriots at $3.2 billion, the Washington Redskins at $2.85 billion, the New York Giants at $2.8 billion, and the San Francisco 49ers at $2.7 billion. The Buffalo Bills are the least valuable team in the NFL.

Values for NFL teams have gone up by a big margin. The average NFL team is now worth $2 billion, up 38 percent from a year ago. The jump in values is as result of the NFL’s profits going up. The leagues tv rights have brought in $900 million in revenue while sponsors have brought in an estimated record of $1.15 billion, which is up eight percent from 2013, according to CNN. New stadium construction has also helped. The NFL had a record $12 billion revenue last season.

Spanish soccer team Real Madrid is the second most valuable sports franchise at $3.26 billion, ESPN notes. The Patriots and the New York Yankees, at $3.2 billion, are tied for third. FC Barcelona rounds out the top five at $3.16 billion.
