Fox has three major superhero films on the horizon, but it has never been clear if they would cross over with one another. Now, producer Simon Kinberg has officially answered that question.
Kinberg confirmed to MTV that Deadpool, Gambit and X-Men all exist in the same universe, and they will eventually cross over.
“So the Gambit movie, the Deadpool movie, will exist in a world that acknowledges whatever happened in Days of Future Past and moving forward," he said. "Doesn’t mean they’ll always interact with those characters, obviously, it’s not like every movie has all the characters, but they all have to exist within the same rules.”
However, Kinberg went on to say that “there will be interplay between different characters in different movies.”
The information about Gambit isn't all too surprising, as Gambit is actually one of the X-Men, but it was unclear how Deadpool would play into all of this. It would be especially interesting if Deadpool crossed over with the X-Men considering the former movie is R and the latter one is PG-13. Would Fox be forced to censor the foul-mouthed character when he enters the family friendly realm?
After the failure of Fantastic Four, Fox has a lot riding on this upcoming universe of X-Men related movies. As Kinberg recently said, Fox is already discussing a sequel to Deadpool months before it even comes out. With Deadpool and Gambit, beyond just making enjoyable movies, Fox is really focused on setting up franchises here.
Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
