Baseball great Yogi Berra passed away Tuesday evening and upon hearing the news many athletes and celebrities have reacted to his death on social media.
Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra was a beloved figure in New York. The Hall of Fame catcher played 19 seasons for the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. He later went on to manage both clubs.
Berra was born in St. Louis and began his MLB career in 1946. He played with some of the most legendary names in baseball history including Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. He also won a record 10 championships as a player and was behind the plate when Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in the 1956 World Series.
As we previously reported, Dave Kaplan, director of the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in New Jersey said that Berra died at his assisted living home of natural causes.
Here are some of the tributes and reactions that have been pouring in via Twitter:

Met Yogi Berra over breakfast at a charity event in the 90's. He regaled us with stories for an hour. Most down to earth superstar ever. RIP

Though born in a hard-scrabble St. Louis neighborhood, Yogi Berra was NY all the way: plain spoken, funny, hard working & a real team player
