Arizona Cardinals acquire Matt Barkley in trade with Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles traded quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, opening a spot on the roster for Tim Tebow.

The Cardinals sent a conditional seventh-round draft pick to the Eagles for Barkley. The Eagles will get the pick in next year’s draft if Barkley is on the Cardinals roster for at least six weeks, according to ESPN.

Barkley was drafted by the Eagles in 2013.He was the team’s third quarterback the last two season. Mark Sanchez is the team’s number two quarterback. Barkley has played in just four games. He has completed 30 of 50 passes for 300 yards and has thrown four interceptions, according to the Associated Press. Barkley will be the Cardinals third quarterback behind Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. Rookie Phillip Sims and Logan Thomas were competing for the number three spot, but were cut from the team.

Tebow could now get a spot on the Eagles roster with Barkley being traded. He signed with the Eagles in March, but hasn’t played during the regular season since 2012 with the New York Jets. In the Eagles final preseason game on Thursday Tebow completed 11 of 17 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns, and threw one interception.

It will be interesting to see if Tebow does become the Eagles number three quarterback.
