The horror movie genre has seen a steep decline in recent years. Almost any classic horror movie you can think of has been remade, rebooted, or had a sequel and or prequel attached. Almost all of these efforts have been mediocre.
Most horror movies have drifted away from the idea of a great story. Current showings rely on cheap blood and gore sequences in the hopes of attracting viewers.
According to The Tracking Board, New Line Cinema is moving forward with yet another reboot in the Nightmare on Elm Street film series, featuring legendary villain Freddy Krueger.
Horror movie sequels, prequels, and reboots have traditionally fallen flat. A once great character has been tinkered with so many times that we tend to forget how good the original Nightmare on Elm Street was. It is worth hoping this one will change the trend. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) pulled it off. Regardless, whenever there is an announcement like this, it makes you think about the classic horror movies.
That's why we are counting down the 10 greatest horror movies of all time.
