Tony Hale didn't mean to hit on James Van Der Beek

We get it, sometimes it’s hard to say the right thing, Tony Hale.

The actor visited Entertainment Weekly and shared an awkward encounter he had with James Van Der Beek.

In the video Hale talks about his very first job in Hollywood, on Dawson’s Creek. “I was playing a doctor and I knew my scene was with him [Van Der Beek], and I thought ‘Oh he’s a celebrity and we could be, like, best buddies,” Hale said of initially meeting “Dawson”. Life got uncomfortable when Hale tried to make conversation. Hale recalled, “It was really cold and he had all these coats on, and I’m not kidding you the first thing I said to him after saying ‘hi,’ was, ‘Dude, you look hot.’ And I saw in his face was ‘Sorry?’” Although Hale knew he should stop talking, he didn’t. “The second thing I said to him was, ‘No I meant take it off,’” Hale shared.

Hale said Van Der Beek thought he was coming onto the Dawson’s Creek star for the rest of the day, and the two haven’t seen each other since, but Hale wants to send Van Der Beek his apologies, he was just trying to make conversation and was maybe a tad star struck.

Hale has been promoting his new movie American Ultra. He is recently told Yahoo that he wants a House of Cards/Veep Crossover .
