Steve Martin to be honored in Bluegrass category

Steve Martin is a talented guy. He is intelligent, hilarious and musically inclined, so it only makes sense that he is being honored.

We all know and love Steve Martin for his roles as frequent Saturday Night Live host, movie star, stand-up comedian and author, but did you know Martin has been nominated for a Grammy? Well, he has. And more than once! Also, he won. So it makes sense that he is being honored by the International Bluegrass Music Association for Distinguished Achievement in Bluegrass.

Martin has been playing the banjo since his youth, but according to Entertainment Weekly his first music album, titled The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo, was released in 2009. He has since had two follow up albums, one a collaboration with Edie Brickell.

Earlier this year it was announced that Martin’s comedy album A Wild and Crazy Guy, released in 1978, would be added to the National Recording Registry. The registry is a compilation of songs and albums that had an impact on America’s culture and music legacy.

Although Martin hasn’t been on our screens much lately, he will be again soon. Martin was cast in Ang Lee’s film, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

Martin will be honored on Oct. 1, during the World Of Bluegrass festival in Raleigh, North Carolina.
