Liam Payne thinks he made an off-hand yet inoffensive remark while introducing one of his favorite songs at a recent show. Yet, after allegations of homophobia, he took to Twitter to clarify his statement.
What exactly happened? According to a report from BBC.co.uk, the One Direction member had been introducing “Girl Almighty” at a Columbus, Ohio show. "This is my favorite song off the last album, and it is about trying to find that number one woman of your life, which none of you can relate to, ’cause most of you are girls," he said before they started. "Except for the boys in here, you know what I’m talking about."
Some consider the last part to be a dig at 1D’s gay fans. As a result, Payne supposedly experienced a backlash on Twitter. In response, he took to his account yesterday to explain himself with a lengthy series of tweets:
lol think some people take things to literal these days not gunna comment on it anymore you guys know what I meant it was meant in general

So annoying trying your hardest to make people happy in a show and you think about all the notes u tried to hit higher or a little sweeter

And all some people want to concentrate on was a throw away statement about a song that I love

One Direction released Four in November 2014 and has been touring in support. The album has since generated two successful singles, again, for the band – “Steal My Girl” and “Night Changes” – and reached No. 1 in both the U.S. and U.K. The On The Road Again Tour is making its way through North America and features One Direction as a four-piece, as member Zayn Malik left in March.
