Netflix renews 'Sense8' on characters' birthday

Sense8 raises a lot of questions — not just in regards to the story, but with its general construction. One question prompted, however, just got an answer: Netflix agreed to renewed the program for a second season.

The announcement came on Netflix's Twitter on August 8, a birthday all the primary characters share together. Revealing their best wishes, the tweet revealed the birthdays "are just the beginning" and let fans know "Sense8 is reborn." What followed also was a video showing different cast members voicing their enthusiasm for the new season between singing their celebrations.

The original sci-fi show, created by J. Michael Straczynski and the Wachowskis, focused on eight strangers who shared a violent vision and grew to develop to interact with one another despite their great distances. It stars Daryl Hannah, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Brian J. Smith and Freema Agyeman.

Nothing else is known at the moment, of course, about what further plans are for the series, narratively or production-wise. The series debuted to mixed reviews, but earned a devout fanbase and was praised by many for its boldness in execution and for its progressive trans depiction, featuring a trans character without having to focus on the transitioning, played by Clayton. Following the poor reaction to the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending earlier this year, financially and with audiences and critics, this is among the first good fortunes to come to the sibling directors in a good while.

In addition to this, the streaming site announced Bojack Horseman would receive a third season two weeks prior.
