Miley Cyrus says Nicki Minaj is 'not too kind,' doesn't 'respect' the way she handled VMA snub

Miley Cyrus has an issue with the way Nicki Minaj made a statement about failing to be nominated for a Video Music Award, which indirectly involved Taylor Swift and made headlines at the time.

When the VMA nominations came out last month, Minaj was unhappy with the bigger picture of African American women getting less recognition for their accomplishments.

Her example was Swift’s “Bad Blood” video getting nominated and her “Anaconda” video getting snubbed for Video of the Year.

“If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” she tweeted at the time.

Cyrus is now telling The Hollywood Reporter she doesn’t “respect” the way Minaj went about it, calling her approach full of “anger.”

“I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it," she said.

"And it’s not anger like, 'Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you. Not to sound like a b-tch, but that’s like, 'Eh, I didn’t get my VMA'...If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that.”

“Don’t make it just about yourself," she continued. "Say: 'This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type.'...What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite."
