4. Casablanca, 1942
While Bergman didn’t really think highly of her performance in Casablanca, it really is one of the most heartbreaking performances caught on film. She can move an audience to tears, making a hopeless romance come to life. Her 1948 film Arch of Triumph is sort of a less effective copy, proving that nothing beats Casablanca (except the other three movies ahead of it on this list).
