Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenburg to be honored by American Cinematheque

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenburg will be honored by the American Cinematheque as the first recipient of the Sid Grauman Award.

The award is to be presented for the first time at the organization’s annual banquet, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which will be held on Oct. 30 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

Katzenburg will be honored for his achievements in the motion picture industry. American Cinematheque chairman Rick Nicita said about the CEO, “Jeffrey Katzenberg is the ideal inaugural recipient of the American Cinematheque’s Sid Grauman award. Both Grauman and Katzenberg advanced the successful exhibition of motion pictures around the world: Sid Grauman with his movie places that included the Egyptian and Chinese theatres and Jeffrey Katzenburg with his dynamic leadership as a business and creative force at the top of several major iconic movie companies.”

The award is named for Sid Grauman, who founded the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, which has been owned and operated since 1998 by the Cinematheque. It will be presented by Hill Valley, a product placement agency which represents luxury brands and is involved in motion picture development, product placement and promotion.

Cinematheque’s board of directors said it created the award to, “honor an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Hollywood film industry in the continuing advancement of theatrical exhibition.”

Reese Witherspoon will also be honored at the American Cinematheque’s banquet with its main award for her achievements throughout her career.
