Anne Hathaway will have to fight off more than acclaim in her latest role. The Oscar-winner signed on to star in The Shower, where the Les Miserables actress fields herself against a mysterious meteor shower turning men into vicious aliens.
The female-centric sci-fi comedy, described as a mix between Attack the Block, This is the End and Bridesmaids, comes from the Blacklist-approved script by Jac Schaeffer (TiMER), as covered by http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/anne-hathaway-star-produce-alien-816808/>THR. Hathaway also joins the upcoming film as a producer, alongside her husband, Adam Lauren, Schaeffer, D.J. Gugenheim and Andrew Lauren.
Currently, the team are working on the packing phase of their feature, which involves getting actors and a director signed on before financiers and studio reps enter the equation. With Hathaway's involvement, however, heads should perk up to tell the story of a baby shower turning into a group of women into humanity's only hope for survival against a maliciously rampant titlewave of bloody-thirst alien men.
Though not usually the kind of film Hathaway associates herself with, especially as she has Nancy Meyers' 9-to-5 comedy The Intern on the docket next for a September 25 release, it's part of her genre-expanding evolution. The Interstellar co-star just recently planned to enter the Japanese-monster movie venue with Nacho Vigalondo's Colossal a couple months back, but recent legal hassles are preventing her from exploring her horizons, at least until this new movie came her way.
"Anne is the perfect actor to anchor a story that is ultimately about female friendship, with a lot of ass-kicking along the way," Schaeffer stated.
And while the actress does have a number of other projects she's hoping to produce and act in within the near future, including Joe Wright's The Lifeboat and the mini-series The Ambassador's Wife, Hathaway's seemingly wants to make sure The Shower fits inside her busy schedule.
"Jac has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centered around funny, fully dimensional female characters," Hathaway noted. "I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen."
Meanwhile, Hathaway's also soon slated to return to the world of Wonderland in Alice Through the Looking Glass, in theaters on May 27, 2016.
