Ealier this month it was rumored Malik was getting dropped from Syco, but it has turned out Malik is leaving on his own.
Malik took to Twitter on Wednesday to make the big announcement, writing, “I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !!” later adding, “#REALME.”
Cowell, who discovered Malik long with his former One Direction bandmates on X Factor, also tweeted his approval.
“We have been working on this for a while and I am pleased to say congratulations to @Zaynmalik on signing with @RCARecords,” he wrote. “I believe they are the perfect label for @ZaynMalik’s solo career and I am sure whatever they release together will be special.”
