Toronto Film Festival line-up includes ‘The Martian,’ ‘Freeheld,’ ‘Brooklyn,’ ‘Black Mass’ and ‘The Danish Girl’

Alright, we had our fun with superheroes, explosions and billion dollar movies. It’s time to get serious and think about the films that will dominate the conversation during the awards season. The Toronto International Film Festival announced its lineup of films this morning.

The films include many of the films we expect to be in the running for Oscars early next year. This includes Ridley Scott’s The Martian with Matt Damon, Legend with Tom Hardy, Stephen Frears’ Lance Armstrong biopic The Program and Brooklyn with Saoirse Ronan.

In total, TIFF organizers announced 15 Galas and 34 special presentations.

“We are celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2015 and this first round of films offers a taste of the incredible lineup at this year’s Festival,” Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, said in a statement. “Made by both established and emerging filmmakers from around the world, these films offer a global snapshot of our times.”

The festival runs from Sept. 10-20.
