The fifth Mission: Impossible will be in theaters July 31, and it will feature Tom Cruise hanging onto the side of an airplane as it is taking off. Literally.
This is not the first time Cruise was seen pulling off a dangerous stunt like this. No one was surprised to see Cruise hanging on the side of an A400 plane in the trailer of his upcoming movie. That is until everyone realized the stunt was actually real.
USA Today reported that the actor repeated the stunt eight times for the shooting of the film.
"I'm feeling the force of the wind hit me. I'm actually scared s***less," Cruise explained the feeling he had after shooting the scene.
The footage is all in the trailer; the plane rides down the runway with Cruise hanging his feet in the air, trying to hold onto the wing of the plane.
In the video that shows how the stunt was pulled off, stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood explained how dangerous the action was.
"You can't hang a multimillion-dollar star on the outside of an airplane and fly around in the normal world, but Tom wanted to be on the outside of that plane," Eastwood said about the 53 year-old star.
Cruise is clearly brave enough to perform such a stunt that most actors would need a double to perform. "It's not a little crash and scratch. You're dead," Eastwood said.
