Shawn Mendes bruised in new music video, 'Stitches' (Video)

The 16-year-old singer looked beat up in his new music video which was released earlier in June.

In an interview with MTV, the star explained that although it looks like he took a few punches to his face, it didn't actually happen.

"The shoot took about 10 hours and was all stunts,” Shawn told MTV News. “I had to learn how to get hit realistically, and had a stunt double for some of them. It was amazing to really get to act in this one.”

But Mendes already had experience with trying to perceive the look. "“Luckily, when I was a kid I used to pretend like I was getting beat up all the time,” Shawn said. “It’s fun — it’s challenging is what it is actually.”

Director of the music video, Jay Martin, explained the feel for the video.

“Your mood is totally serious — it’s intense, it’s almost like you know you’re getting into something [but] you don’t know what you’re getting into,” Martin told Shawn as they were shooting on set. “But when you’re getting hit, it’s not like you are shocked by it.”

The last scene reveals that Mendes was not physically damaged; it was in his head, and it were actually his feelings getting hurt.

“Just filming the very last scene — I’m not all beat up anymore. I’m looking into the mirror and realizing that I was never hurt in the first place,” he said. “It was emotionally, the girl was hurting me.”

Mendes found himself emotionally beat in the parking lot while shooting the video.

The young singer and his broken heart created a beautiful song from his debut LP Handwritten. The video, Stitches definitely makes it look like the singer needs some fixing.

Mendes is currently traveling with singer Taylor Swift, performing the song Stitches as the opening act.
