President Obama calls Mike Huckabee’s 'oven' comments on Iran deal ‘sad’

President Barack Obama is currently traveling in Africa, but it’s clear that he his not ignoring the political climate at home. He even spoke extensively about the 2016 Republican candidates for the first time while in Ethiopia, specifically calling out former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump.

During his press conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, Obama said that Huckabee and Trump are making comments “that would be considered ridiculous if it weren't so sad,” reports NBC News.

That seemed like a direct reference to Huckabee’s most recent comments on the landmark Iran deal reached earlier this month. In an interview with Breitbart, Huckabee said that Obama “will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven,” making a reference to the Holocaust.

During his comments, Obama voiced his displeasure with current Republican behavior, even referencing Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton comparing Secretary of State John Kerry to Pontius Pilate.

“We have robust debates, look at the facts,” Obama told journalists in Ethiopia. “There are going to be disagreements but we don't just fling out ad hominem attacks like that because it doesn't help inform the American people.”

Huckabee quickly responded to Obama with a statement. “What's ridiculous and sad is that President Obama does not take the Iran threats seriously,” Huckabee said. “For decades, Iranian leaders have pledged to 'destroy,' 'annihilate,' and 'wipe Israel off the map' with a 'big Holocaust.' 'Never again' will be the policy of my administration and I will stand with our ally Israel to prevent the terrorists in Tehran from achieving their own stated goal of another Holocaust.”

Huckabee has been vocal about his distrust in Iran, even launching a political ad that references the infamous “Daisy” political ad from the 1960s.
