A 20-year-old Long Island woman is hoping that she can turn her near-death experience with a tree into an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Stephanie Epstein was fast asleep Monday when a 2 1/2-ton oak tree crashed through her roof and landed right on her bed at around midnight, authorities told The New York Daily News. David Cion of Long Island Lumberjack Tree and Land Service said that if Epstein was sleeping in the center of the bed, she would have been killed.
The SUNY Binghamton student was still trapped by the tree for two hours inside her bedroom in Great Neck.
“She was very brave. She was great,” Steven Blocker, a volunteer paramedic told the Daily News. “She was talking to us the whole time in keeping in good spirits.”
“I think the girl was surrounded by angels,” Cion added.
Epstein and her family are hoping that the miraculous story will land her a mention on Ellen. According to Newsweek, the cousin, Susan Wittlin Kay, posted a picture of Epstein on the Ellen Facebook page. She’s seen in her hospital gown, holding a sign that reads, “I'm Stephanie Epstein and I want to tell Ellen DeGeneres my story.”
Epstein was treated for multiple trauma injuries and listed in serious but stable condition Monday night.
