Leonardo DiCaprio tries to survive in first teaser for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s ‘The Revenant’

Birdman director Alejandro G. Inarritu is back already with his follow-up to his Oscar-winning hit. This time, he and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki take their camera to the American wilderness, where Leonardo DiCaprio fights to survive.

DiCaprio stars as explorer Hugh Glass, who was attacked by a bear and left to die by the other members of his party, including his friend, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). In the hopes of reuniting with his family some day, Hugh does his best to survive and redeem himself.

The cast also includes Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter. Inarritu co-wrote the screenplay with Mark L. Smith and it is based on Michael Punke’s novel.

The Revenant will hit theaters on Dec. 25 to qualify for the Oscars and will have its wide release on Jan. 8. The film is a New Regency, 20th Century Fox co-production and the producers are Arnon Milchan, Steve Golin, Iñárritu, Mary Parent, James W. Skotchdopole, Keith Redmon with Brett Ratner as one of the executive producers.

This is Inarritu’s follow-up to Birdman, which won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the Oscars earlier this year. The director’s other films include Babel and 21 Grams.
