Judge refuses to lower Suge Knight's bail

A judge refused to lower bail Friday in Los Angeles for rapper Marion “Suge” Knight after deciding that his lawyers had not presented any new circumstances that would mean reducing bail from $10 million, according to a story from the Associated Press.

Knight pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run charges after the January incident that left one man dead and another with serious injuries.

Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen made the ruling not to lower bail after the defense attorneys presented a video they described as a new and unedited version of Knight running over two men with his truck outside a burger stand in Compton. Coen said, however that, “there’s nothing new in the video.”

Knight’s attorney, Thomas Mesereau, also argued that his client was not a flight risk or danger to the community, unlike the “unfair” picture the prosecutors presented in court. Judge Coen disagreed saying, “I’ve heard nothing that would convince me that bail is insufficient.”

Friday’s hearing is the latest since Knight has been in prison, after the rapper has either refused to come out of his cell or was taken to the hospital for medical issues.

Suge Knight is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 17.
