Ed Sheeran is taking his talents to another venue. The British singer/songwriter has earned a recurring part in FX’s The Bastard Executioner, the new series from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter.
The casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. He will star as Sir Cormac, a protege of a church elder who is surprisingly dangerous.
The Bastard Executioner might come as a shock to fans of Sheeran’s hit singles and albums. It’s a violent period drama set during the 14th Century and centers on a warrior who becomes a journeyman executioner.
Sheeran did appear in an episode of NBC’s sitcom Undateable, playing himself. He caught Sutter’s attention by announcing on Twitter that he loved Sons of Anarchy. Sutter asked Sheeran to record a cover of Foy Vance’s “Make It Rain for one of that show’s final episodes.
Sheeran has had a busy few weeks, since he’s still promoting his second album, X. He announced last week that his upcoming Wembley Stadium show will air as a special on NBC.
The Bastard Executioner stars Katey Segal, Stephen Moyer, Lee Jones and Flora Spencer-Longhurst. The Americans’ Matthew Rhys will make a guest appearance.
