The roaster of cameos in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already a guessing game, and now Daniel Craig's "appearance" in the movie is being called in question. By the actor himself, of all people.
Although Simon Pegg, who's confirmed to have an disguised pop-up in the movie, said the 007 actor is hidden in the new movie as a Stormtrooper back in May, Craig wants to set to record straight — and in a fairly aggressive manner.
Here's what the actor told Entertainment Weekly:
"Why would I ever bother doing something like that? F**king hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie?”
Based on the tone, it's very likely possible this is just Craig' being cheeky and the humor is getting lost in translation. The quote seems a little too boisterous to be completely genuine, and Craig doesn't seem as though he has the ego to speak so little of different performers. He is a major action star, though. Plus, the rest of his quotes makes him sound even more playful.
"Talk to Simon Pegg," he continued. "He obviously knows way more than I do. He’s just jealous because he’s not in Star Wars. He’s got some issue with J.J. I don’t know what the f**k it is. You need to talk to Simon about it.”
This quote is even more puzzling because, as stated before, Pegg is confirmed to be in the movie as of this past week's Comic-Con.
Keep in mind, as The Force Awakens was shot in Pinewood Studios, which was just a few meters away in a different sound stage, it's entirely conceivable Craig could've sneak his way into the different set, putting one the white costume and hiding among the masses. It's not a confirmation, of course, but given that Pegg admitted Craig's cameos as a slip-of-the-tongue, it's not hard to believe this is just the actor trying to keep his appearance a surprise — even if fans won't likely see it anyway.
Either way, should Craig not appear in Abrams' new movie on December 18, Craig will definitely be seen in Spectre on November 6. It's supposedly his last rodeo as Ian Fleming's character.
