While none of the original Harry Potter cast members are expected to lend their talents to the new spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warner Bros. currently has little trouble filling out some replacements in their wake. Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and newcomer Alison Sudol all signed on the dotted line for the new property, and now Tony winner Dan Fogler (Fanboys) enters the picture as its primary muggle, Jacob.
Jacob is a man our main character Newt (Redmayne) befriends during his adventures in New York. Deadline got the exclusive on his casting, in a role rumored to the actor in addition to Josh Gad, Michael Cera and John Krasinski, among others.
It was only yesterday when Transparent star Sudol was confirmed to play Queenie, Tina's (Waterston) older sister, so it looks like the hiring process is moving along quite nicely. Late last month was when Miller came aboard as Kredan, with Waterston herself joining a month ago and Redmayne filling in the lead role just a tad earlier.
David Yates, who directed all the films in the series from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, returns into the Hogwarts director's chair for this movie, despite still being in post-production on next year's big-budget re-imagining of Tarzan. Author J.K. Rowling makes her screenwriting debut here, but continues her role as a producer alongside David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.
Fantastic Beasts begins production later this year, likely just as summer comes to an end, in anticipation of its November 18, 2016 release. Warner Bros. wants this to be a new franchise under their banner, and considering the cast they've got already in addition to the plethora of Harry Potter fans in the world they'll probably get their wish.
Fogler's bounced between TV and film in the past couple years. He fit in small screen appearances on Secrets and Lies, The Good Wife, The Goldbergs, Black Box and Hannibal between big screen parts in Barely Legal, Ava's Possessions, and upcoming roles inSex Guaranteed, Making the Day and Custody.
