Bruce Boxleitner says he's done hoping that 'Tron 3' will happen

As sad as it is, it looks like it's officially time to give up on Tron 3, and now one of the film's original actors is admitting defeat.

After years of rumors and reports that it would begin filming soon, Disney officially cancelled Tron 3 back in May after the disaster that was Tomorrowland, as we previously reported.

Slashfilm recently caught up with actor Bruce Boxleitner, who played Alan Bradley and Tron in both films. Although he's been a huge Tron supporter in the past, he now says he's officially giving up on Tron 3 getting made.

“I’m done with it," he said. "I’ve moved on. I hate to say that but it’s been too up and down for me. I would rather not just keep going."

Boxleitner went on to say that he was pretty surprised when Disney cancelled the project, as he'd heard so much about the movie being in preproduction just as we had. But he said he thought that Disney just doesn't seem to want Tron anymore, and that they'd rather focus on Star Wars and Marvel movies.

“It breaks my heart,” he said, “but I understand the times move on. Disney, it’s not in their [wheelhouse] anymore."

In regards to Tomorrowland, Boxleitner said he doesn't really think that movie bombing is to blame, speculating that it's more to do with Disney wanting to focus on movies like Maleficent over more science fiction.

But in terms of a Tron revival, Boxleitner is over hoping for anything more to happen, and he thinks it's time to move on. Thanks a lot, Disney.
