In what must have been a truly horrifying moment, a 92-year-old woman woke up in a morgue in Germany after a doctor declared her dead. Now, that doctor has been charged.
According to ABC News, the unidentified doctor in Berlin was charged with negligent bodily harm after declaring the elderly dead while she was still alive.
The incident occurred last March when the woman was ill and her caregiver found her unresponsive with no vitals. She was then declared dead at a hospital, but awoke that evening in the freezer of a funeral home.
Employees at the home heard screams coming from the refrigeration room and found her alive. She died two days later from heart disease.
The doctor is looking at a fine or prison time if convicted.
As Inquisitr noted, a similar situation occurred in Poland last year when another elderly woman was pronounced dead and woke up in a morgue several hours later. Prior to that, a woman in the U.S. who was still alive was declared dead in 2011.
