5. The Box (with a button)

The 2009 thriller The Box, starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella, is a story of a husband and wife who wake up early one morning to a doorbell ring. When the wife answers the door, the only thing there is a small package. Inside the package they find a small wooden box with a dome-covered button with a lock on it, and a note telling them a man will arrive that evening. They don’t think much of it and go on to eat breakfast and head to their respective jobs. Both receive news at their places of work which puts them in an immediate financial crisis. That evening, the mysterious man arrives and gives the wife the key to unlock the button enclosure. He tells her that if she or her husband pushes it, they will immediately receive $1 million, but that also, one person will die somewhere in the world as a result of them pushing the button. When her husband gets home, she tells him what happened. After some discussion and some tinkering, the wife leans forward and presses the button.

The movie, as well as a 1986 episode of The Twilight Zone, is based on the short story Button, Button by Richard Matheson.
