Tommy Chong has revealed he’s battling rectal cancer, which is his second battle with cancer. He’s using more marijuana than ever before to self-medicate, he said.

Chong beat prostate cancer in 2012 but the cancer has returned. He attended the 826LA's 10th Anniversary Gala in Santa Monica, Calif. on Tuesday and said he’s in treatment.

"I've had some medical issues lately. I got diagnosed with rectal cancer,” he told Us Weekly at the event. "I'm using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before.”

“I'm in treatment now. I've been — just the case either way, either I get healed or I don't. But either way, I’m going to make sure I get a little edge off or put up."

He said reading the 1998 book by Joel S. Goldsmith, Spiritual Power of Truth, has also helped him get through it.

Chong has been a vocal supporter for the legalization and decriminalization of marijuana. He told CNN’s Don Lemon during his first cancer battle, “[Legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested... I'm taking it as a medicine.”
