Redford was planning on directing the political thriller Against all Enemies when he decided to drop out of the project.
Richard A. Clarke’s best selling memoir inspired the creation of Against all Enemies. The memoir supports the extremely controversial conspiracy theory that 9/11 may have had American involvement. Clarke throws accusations at the Bush Administration that they ignored clear intelligence clues that could have prevented the 9/11 attack.
It was a seemingly perfect fit for Redford, who was working on the film since 2007 after his other political thriller Lions for Lambs, but he reluctantly had to give it up.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Redford left the project because of several scheduling conflicts in the fall of 2015. He needed to focus on promoting his two upcoming movies, Ken Kwapis’ A Walk in the Woods and David Rathers Truth.
In addition to these two projects, according to Entertainment Weekly, Redford is also producing a three-part documentary for the BBC called American Epic.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Redford wasn’t the first leave the project. Actors Vince Vaughn and Sean Penn were considering several roles in the movie, but they backed out.
Even with these setbacks Enemies is still being produced,
