Miley Cyrus brings transgender date to amFAR gala, raises $69,000

Miley Cyrus made a huge impact at the amFar Gala in New York City for better or for worse. The night was full of surprises, from raising almost $70,000 for AIDS research to her mom’s nip slip. Miley Cyrus sure knows how to get people’s attention.

At the beginning of the night, Miley Cyrus arrived with her parents Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, and her surprise guest Tyler Ford. E Online reports that Cyrus was introduced to Ford during her #InstaPride campaign.

Ford considers themself as a queer, agender, and biracial person. Ford uses the pronouns they/them/their to talk about themself. They say, “My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders. I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me.”

Cyrus sported a strapless red Jeremy Scott dress, while also exposing her grown out armpit hair. Something else was exposed when her mom’s mesh dress accidentally showed her nipple. Still, the slip did not take too much attention away from the cause.

During the event, People notes that Cyrus was honored with the Inspiration Award. She also reveled her Caitlyn Collection, which Iis artwork she created as part of her Dirty Hippie line.

The Caitlyn Collection stems from Caitlyn Jenner’s transition. Cyrus sold three framed, bedazzled, and signed copies of Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover for $69,000.

“There are so many people around the world that deserve this recognition,” said Cyrus during her speech. “They’ve dedicated their lives to finding a cure for those living with HIV and AID’s, and they’ve used their voices to speak out against the brutal and unfair condemnation and the abominable stigma that comes with this disease.”
