Matt McGorry responds to harassment from 'Orange is the New Black' fans

Matt McGorry plays the fictional correctional officer John Bennett in Orange is the New Black. Recently, he has received extensive harassment by fans because of his characters actions on the show. McGorry has finally responded to the violent comments by posting a Father’s Day message on Instagram.

In the show, McGorry’s character fell in love with an inmate named Dayanara Diaz and ended up getting her pregnant in the prison. Throughout the two seasons, they faced their up’s and down’s, but viewers were confident that everything would work out, until it didn’t.

During season 3, it seems the pressure gets to Officer Bennett, so he takes off and abandons Diaz without any warning.

Buzzfeed reports that after Officer Bennett’s departure, fans have directed their anger towards McGorry’s Instagram.

Instagramers have posted comments like, “I hope Daya’s Baby grows up into a cartel leader and sends someone to rip off the only leg you have left with a dull butter knife and then feeds it to you.”

Entertainment Weekly found that McGorry decided that he had enough of the harassment and uploaded an Instagram that explained his emotions.

In the post he wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to all the real fathers out there! I am an actor and I play the fictional character John Bennett on the fictional television show entitled Orange is the New Black.”

Fans need to remember that nothing is final yet. The status of their relationship is still to be determined as the show heads into season 4.

Happy Fathers Day to all the real fathers out there! I am an actor and I play the fictional character John Bennett on the fictional television show entitled Orange Is The New Black. Here I am with actresses Dascha Polanco and Elizabeth Rodriguez who play make-believe mother-daughter characters named Dayanara and Aleida Diaz on the made up television program with me. They are not mother and Daugther in real life even though they and we play pretend characters that are sometimes even the opposite of who we are as real live people while not reflecting our real lives because it is not real. Moments before this photograph was taken I was even saying words that were written by another person, all the while pretending that my name was John Bennett and that his thoughts and actions were a result of my own brain! Weirdly, the words coming out of my mouth and the things I did in the story were not created by me at all! To make matters even more confusing, I am even dressed in fictional character John Bennett's costume (a costume is like fictional clothes) in this photograph that was taken on the television set and afterwards I went home to my apartment in New York City where I don't have a child because I'm not a father and have never worked in a prison and TV is not real life. #oitnb
