It has been 25 years since Back to the Future made millions want a hoverboard and now this dream is becoming a reality.
Lexus has announced that they have created the highly anticipated hoverboard and they have released a clip. The future is officially here.
Lexus chief engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi is quoted in the 30-second promo saying, “There is no such thing as impossible. It’s just a matter of figuring out how.” And just as the skater steps off his old-fashioned skateboard and on to the hoverboard, the video ends.
Is this too good to be true? Popular Science informs that although there have been many elaborate fake videos of hoverboards, Lexus is the real deal.
Lexus hoverboards are restricted to only metal-lined surfaces because liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and magnets form the hovering.
Even celebrities are excited about the news. E! News reports that Zoe Saldana wrote to a martial arts expert and a professional skateboarder on Facebook expressing her excitement.
“If this is real I’m going to need a coach—Jason Scott Lee or Greg Lutzka could one of you guys help?”
The Lexus hoverboard isn’t for sale yet, but Tanahashi confirms that the prototype will be tested in Barcelona in a couple of weeks.
