Outlander, the smash Starz original series has just announced the casting of a central character in its upcoming second season.
Starz has announced that Dominique Piñon will join season 2 as Master Raymond, a mysterious healer who seems to have a vast knowledge when it comes to secret matters (think the political and the occult.) Raymond is looked upon with suspicion by outsiders, which can only mean one thing: He’s going to bond with Claire, as per Entertainment Weekly
Season two of Outlander starts with Claire and Jamie arriving in France. They are determined to stop the battle of Culloden and save countless lives. With the help of Jamie’s cousin Jared, who is a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire begin to hobnob with the extravagant aristocracy of French society, where scheming, backbiting as well as luxurious parties are the norm, but their political plans don’t pan out. In addition, Claire and Jamie’s relationship is put to the test by other people and unforeseen circumstances. However, Claire and Jamie stay resilient and unwavering in their quest to avert a hopeless uprising, and the annihilation of Scottish Highland life as they know it.
Claire meets Raymond in his apothecary shop and [in addition,] it's always a question of just how much he knows about her adventure thus far in 18th-century Scotland and France, as per Zap2Zit.com
Born in France, Piñon is well-known for his work with French actors and frequently collaborates with directors Marc Caro and Jean Pierre Jeunet. With Caro and Jeunet, Piñon made the 1991 post-apocalyptic dark comedy Delicatessen to be followed by 1995’s The City of Lost Children. He then made 1997’s Alien: Resurrection, 2001’s Amelie, 2004’s A Very Long Engagement, 2009’s Micmacs and 2013’s The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet with Jeunet. Piñon received a Cesar nomination for most promising actor for his appearance in 1982’s Daniel Vigne’s The Return of Martin Guerre. (1982) Piñon’s recent feature work includes leading roles in Israel Horowitz’s English-language My Old Lady and R Prygunov’s Downshifter. Piñon has done a great deal of work in theatre, winning the Moliere for best actor in 2004. His recent stage work includes roles in Christophe Lidon’s La Tempte and Laurent Frechuret’s adaptation of Richard III.
Starz will air the second season of Outlander in 2016 and currently the cast and crew are filming in Scotland. The best-selling eight book series by author Diana Gabaldon was adapted for television by Ronald D. Moore, whose past television credits include executive producing the SciFi channel series Battlestar Galactica and producing/co-producing many episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
