Australian Alternative/Indie Rock band, Calais, debuts new energetic music on ‘Silhouette EP’ release.
Though released in 2015, this band’s latest release clearly finds its sonic foundation and influences from sounds reminiscent of late 80’s to 90’s commercial Modern Rock music. Think bands as Toad The Wet Sprocket, James, and Kitchens of Distinction. Comprised of members Tim Lollback( singer), Joseph Fleming (guitar), Guy Stacey (keys), Liam Roberts (bass), and Will Mogg (drums), the band’s new release features tracks “Time & Space,” “Rewire,” “Fracture,” and “Trial & Error.” “Time & Space” is the selected lead single off the release. Following the band’s 2010 and 2012 organic and heavier sounding releases, self-titled ‘Calais EP’ and ‘In Hindsight EP‘ respectively, the four track output showcases continued and progressive nuances in lyrical writing, melodic harmony, and music production. The band even steps away from moodier sonic aspects, marked in earlier releases, to lighter and uplifting notes. Lollback’s vocal phrasings still remain earnest while at times echoing 90’s solo music star Peter Murphy. In a recent band interview for Groundsounds , the band shares of their further inspiration to steadily continue music output while exploring new musical paths. Given that the band released a single in 2013, called “Animalistic,” it does not appear on the ‘Silhouette EP’ release.
When it comes to some good Alternative/Indie music, Calais’ ‘Silhouette EP’ is one solid spin.
