Will Forte earned the attention he deserved this year on the small screen with The Last Man on Earth, and now he vies for the same love through a larger medium. The SNL alum joins Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele, a.k.a. Key & Peele, in their starring vehicle film Keanu.
Forte plays a low-level pot dealer in the movie, one obsessed with black culture even though Peele's character is the only black person he knows, THR reported. Also cast in Keanu are Method Man and Gabrielle Union.
Written by Peele and Alex Rubens, the latter also a Key & Peele writer, Keanu centers on two friends (Key & Peele) who decide to act like gangster drug dealers in order to retrieve a stolen kitten. Method Man plays a murderous drug lord who believes the two friends to be legendary gangsters, and Union plays Key's character's wife.
Production on Keanu begins this summer in New Orleans for an April 22, 2016 release, under the direction of Peter Atencio. Atencio directed both Key & Peele and Forte before, the formers with several episodes of their Comedy Central program and Forte through The Last Man on Earth episode "She Drives Me Crazy".
This is just one film Peele & Key have lined up for the future, including a film version of their extremely popular "Substitute Teacher" skit and a Judd Apatow-produced film. Peele also said he hoped to direct a horror film he wrote, Get Out, this summer but it looks as though this has taken over his plans.
In addition to this movie, Forte also soon stars in the Adam Sandler Netflix comedy The Ridiculous Six and provides a voice in Get Squirrely. The Last Man on Earth also was renewed for a second season, although Forte's showrunning duties now belong to Dan Sterling.
