Little is known at the moment what the Lonely Island will put together with their upcoming musical comedy film, other than it's produced by Judd Apatow. And while it still doesn't have an official title to its name, more details have come out, as it begins filming in Los Angeles and now stars Sarah Silverman.
The news of Silverman's involvement and the film's scare plot details comes from The Hollywood Reporter. Aiming to poke fun at recent PR-heavy pop-star documentaries like Katy Perry: Part of Me and Justin Beiber: Never Say Never, it focuses on a rapper (Andy Samberg) whose new solo album tanks and is forced to reunite with his former boy band members (Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer) for a reunion concert.
Silverman joins the movie as the witty and sarcastic publicist to Samberg's character.
News on the comedy first came out last August. Taccone, Schaffer and Samberg join Apatow as producers, and all three musicians wrote the screenplay. Taccone and Schaffer, meanwhile, also direct. Although both have directed music videos together, and also worked on films solely — Taccone made 2010's MacGruber while Schaffer called the shots on both 2007's Hot Rod and 2012's The Watch — this is the first movie they'll helm together.
The production update came from Apatow himself, who revealed the start date in a tweet and gives the movie the tentative title Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie. There's no word yet on when it is set to be released, but the musical comedy is hosted under Universal Pictures banner. They have an extended history with Apatow, and also release his newest directorial effort, this summer's Trainwreck.
Soon to be seen in the Sundance-premiered I Smile Back, Silverman also soon stars in Ashby and Still Punching the Clown. She also signed on with HBO for an upcoming pilot.
