Orlando Magic working on deal with Scott Skiles

The Orlando Magic are working on a deal with Scott Skiles to be their next coach. Talks between Skiles and the Magic will continue on Thursday.

The Magic believe that Skiles is the best man for the job. Skiles has been the preferred choice by Magic ownership because of his connections to the team and Orlando. He also played for the Magic in the 1990’s. He has coached for the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls, and the Milwaukee Bucks. Skiles hasn’t coach since he mutually parted ways with the Bucks in 2013. As a coach he has a 443-433 record and is 18-24 in the playoffs, according to Yahoo Sports. He made it to the conference semifinals once with the Suns and Bulls.

Over the weekend the Magic talked with Los Angeles Clippers assistant Mike Woodson.

Skiles has also become a candidate to be the coach for the New Orleans Pelicans. He has been interviewed by the Pelicans for the job along with Golden State Warriors associate head coach Alvin Gentry and Jeff Van Gundy, according to ESPN. The Magic and the Pelicans have had interest in Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. Now they could get a chance to interview him as the Bulls fired Thibodeau on Thursday. Gentry and Van Gundy are the leading candidates for the Pelicans job.

The Magic finished this season with a 25-57 record under interim coach James Borrego. Borrego became the interim coach in February when the Magic fired Jacque Vaughn.
