NPR calls for two more seasons of 'Serial' podcast

Serial brought National Public Radio unprecedented attention last fall while the podcast series was posted. In an easy decision, NPR has called for two more seasons, with season two starting this fall.

Serial subscribers received a newsletter on Wednesday, which announced that season two will be posted this fall. Season three will be up next spring. “We are hard at work reporting not one, but two distinct new stories,” producers wrote in the email, reports The Associated Press.

The first season of Serial featured the investigation into the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and the man who was convicted of killing her, Adnan Syed. Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder also shined a spotlight on Jay Wilds, whose testimony helped the prosecution convict Sayed, even though his testimony was often contradictory. Wilds was not interviewed in the podcast.

In January, prosecutor Kevin Urick also spoke out and defended the conviction.

Despite some controversy, the podcast became so popular that it even earned a Saturday Night Live spoof.
